Being Booga - Earth Day Edition - 2008

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

About the photo: This was taken very close to my home in rural Missouri. I’m back in the city now, so these photos are very special to me.

For Earth Day I thought I’d list out what I am doing that’s “Green”.

  1. I make my own laundry detergent, reusing the packaging / storage container and not using harmful chemicals.
  2. I make most of my own cleaning supplies, again, reusing the same storage containers / bottles.
  3. I simply don’t buy things that have extra packaging. Ever notice the cheaper store brand products have less packaging?
  4. Recycle newsprint, paper, cardboard, plastics
  5. Wash and Reuse plastic bags and other containers
  6. I buy most, if not all, my clothes from the resale shops / thrift shops
  7. I don’t drive every day. Sometimes not at all in a week. Bought a bus pass. Moved to a neighborhood that’s walk-friendly (check www.WalkScore.Com to find out how your neighborhood scores!)
  8. Get out and really enjoy nature, the countryside and fresh clean air.
  9. Grow my own vegetables (mostly)
  10. Support companies and products, by voting with my purchasing power, that I feel are environmentally responsible.

I’m going to start using reusable shopping bags, I’ve had them forever, I just keep forgetting them.

What do you do? How are you celebrating Earth Day?

For Earth Day 1990 I actually started and organized the Earth Day events in my city in California and asked the City Counsel for a proclamation stating that April 22nd was “Earth Day” in our town. Wow, Right? I remember we cleaned up our lake, river, and planted trees. We also had a little fair.

I’m not really celebrating today - but it’s a fine day to think about it at least, isn’t it? I’m a lot greener now than I was then! I even planted a tree recently.

3 Random Things - a Monday Meme

Monday, April 21st, 2008

I was tagged! MyGoodCents.Net challenged me to the “3 Random Things” meme, which was started by Ginger over at Attention Target Shoppers. So, here goes!

1. I play the drums.

2. I love the seasons, the moon and I believe in omens and superstitions.

3. I collect aprons and old kitchen gadgetry (I love to cook).

What do you think of my 3 Random?

I’m going to carry this meme on to the 5 people I’m curious about!
The Amelia :: Tight Fisted Miser :: TipsnTreasures :: Retro Food :: Frisky Wife

No, REALLY - Who are you?

Friday, April 11th, 2008

No, Really, Who ARE you?

Well there’s been a lot of heat and discussion over on one of my favorite blogs, Suburban Oblivion, and so today I decided to come out of the broom closet with a formal statement:

It takes writing to become a writer. It takes blogging to become a blogger.

So I fired up a blog because I’m going through some unique-to-me experiences and wanted to document them - - and…make friends with others who might be doing the same stuff.

While I’m workin hard at finding my own “voice” and discovering my own unique “niche” I might as well say this - yeah I am copying everything I can find. NO. I just write some stuff then later find out someone already wrote it. S%#!@t — I got a mean comment stating something to that effect - well it didn’t hurt my feelings - however, it did open my eyes to the fact that I am just a blogger a ME and I do what I waaaant.

I know I’m not the only blogger to post rebates and coupons. I just figure the more the merrier, because who can’t use coupons and rebates? Plus, for me, it helps keep me organized.

Who am I as a blogger and what right do *I* have to be here?

I don’t know. Check back…

Right now I’m busy trying to make friends with others who are like-minded, for support and good things — I can use all the help I can get. Blogging, or otherwise.

Craigslist Blog Launched

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Craigslist has launched a blog! Another blog to add to my daily to-read list. One thing to note, the blog is at .ORG (not .com) - also they don’t have an RSS feed yet.

So Happy! MyBlogLog & Twitter - I love A Lottle!

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

Tonight I rediscovered MyBlogLog. I’d been on there for a year or more, at least - but had abandoned it some time ago. Since this morning I have discovered probably 20 new blogs with great content related to all kinds of things that I find interesting such as frugal living, cooking, working from home, blogging, and more! I already made a few new friends and a few people have even joined my “Community”. Thanks, MyBlogLog! I’m so happy!

I also got back into my ol’ Twitter account and am already Twittering away. Ryan keeps looking over. I’m sending a lot of texts. He’s wondering who the heck I could be texting (we pretty much just text each other) - I like making him sweat a little. (Well, a lottle, a little bit of mystery keeps ‘em interested) - He’s going to laugh when he finds out I’m texting blog updates via Twitter!

April Fools Day

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

I love this day! I got a few of my long-distance friends today by sending them a text message asking them to please provide a personal reference for me by calling Mr. Lyon, gave them the phone number for the Denver Zoo. Got ‘em good, I’m still laughing. HAHA! One friend commented, “You’re sure to get the job! They say please bring 2 steaks on your first day!”

My favorite online prank today was Gmail’s NEW Service, “Custom Time“.

Need I say More?

Welcome to Being Booga. I need a cup of coffee.
